I have decided to put together a list of programs that I have gotten to run directly from a flash drive, hopefully with your help, we can create a much larger list.

If anyone has anything they would like to add to the list, please post or email me and I will add it to the list.

In my oppinion a "portable" application should meet several criteria

1 - It should be useful for people who use their USB keys "on the go" and want to feel at home on any computer they connect to. True - maybe there is a DVD burning program that can run off the USB key, but do I really need it? I would look for applications that are related to security, privacy, data mangement, email, browsing etc.

2 - It should run from the USB key with no need for any installation on the hosting PC whatsoever. Plug the key to any computer, select the program file on your key and go. There are programs that were specifically designed this way like portable sweeper and some that simply happen to do it because they do not use dll's (or keep them in their own directory), and do not write anything to the registry. One program like this is Foxmail (good mail client - I see now it does not appear in the list).

3 - It should preferably be small in size. These are not the days where you tried to find very small utilities to fit as many on a floppy, but still I would like the application to use as little space as possible. I need most of the space for data.
